Domain Names

If you are not completely sure what hosting is, check out our guide: All About Hosting

To have your own hosted blog (or website), you need a domain name.

The domain name is simply what people type into their browser to get to your site.

Coming up with a name can often be the most difficult part of a web project and very often you come up with the perfect name, only to find someone else has already taken it.

Domain name registration can be done at the same time as you purchase your hosting. There is a domain name checker built in as part of the signup process and the domain name registration is done automatically when the signup has been completed.

If you already have a domain name, you can use that name by selecting the appropriate option in the shopping cart. We’ll then give you the details you need to ‘point’ the name at your hosting account on our server so that you can use name and won’t have to register a new domain name.

If you’d like, you can also transfer the domain to us to manage on your behalf. From then on you’ll be charged at our normal rate for renewals.

If you don’t yet have a domain name and are not quite ready to start your new blog, you can always register the name you want now and keep it ‘on ice’ until you’re ready to use it. Click here to use the domain name registration tool.

You can use the domain checker below to search for available domain names. Simply enter the name you want into the box and hit ‘Go’. You will then be taken to our secure billing and support site to find out if the domain is available and search for alternatives.
